With the closed-source nature of Dynamics 365 for Financials (D365F), how can a business ensure that D365F will be flexible enough to work with their company? With the introduction of Events and Extensions, businesses can use plug and play, downloadable extensions to modify some of the functionality of D365F to better suit their operations. These modifications could add functionality or integrate new online services with their instance of D365F. In order to utilize these extensions, users will need to access the Extension Management window. This can be easily found by doing a search for Extension Management with the search icon found at the top right of D365F’s user interface.

These extensions can be accessed through two methods: through Microsoft’s AppSource website, or through the application itself. AppSource.microsoft.com is the URL that users should use to access Microsoft’s catalog of readily available extensions for D365F and other applications. (Note: it is important here to log in to AppSource using the email account that you would use to log into D365F.) The Extension Marketplace can also be accessed by using the link titled “Extension Marketplace” that is located on the Extension Management page inside of D365F.

When you have found an extension that you think would benefit your organization, it is easy to select the extension and read more about how it functions. Learning more before you download is highly suggested, but you can take solace in the fact that extensions can be added and removed at any point your organization decides. This is because all of the data that is generated from using an extension is saved even when the extension itself is removed. This is the beauty of the “plug and play” functionality of Microsoft’s extensions! You can also be sure that all extensions are functional and safe, as all extensions on the marketplace have to be vetted and approved by Microsoft. This ensures that all extensions will only be an asset to your business.
