Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is a powerful business tool. For data entry, it offers users numerous field option which can later be used for analysis and reporting purposes. Often, when entering new information, users are presented with a wall of boxes that can be populated. Even having a bigger monitor that can fit all the boxes on screen doesn’t change the fact that it is overwhelming. To combat this, the software picks a handful of the most commonly used fields to be displayed until “Show more” is pressed — however, prior to the April 2019 update, Dynamics 365 Business Central users had no say in what was included in the handful of displayed fields mentioned above.

With the update, Dynamics 365 Business Central now enables users to customize which fields are shown after a fast-tab has been collapsed. The new capability is referred to as the Personalization Enhancement.

How the Dynamics 365 Business Central Personalization Enhancement Helps

For example, let’s look at the sales quote card. Before the personalization, the only fields shown when the general fast-tab is collapsed are Customer Name, External Document No., Contact, Due Date, and Requested Delivery Date. Let’s say the field Salesperson Code is mandatory for every sales quote. You could press “Show more”, find Salesperson Code, and fill in the Salesperson Code box.

That wasn’t that hard, but it can get frustrating very quickly. Also, because the necessary field is hidden, it can lead to oversight. Let’s bring Salesperson Code out of “Show more” to prevent possible error.

    How to Personalize Your Fields

To do this, enter “personalization” under “setting”.

The Salesperson Code is now available when the fast-tab is collapsed.

Yes, I know what question you are asking, “Is that it?”. Frankly, as for Personalization Enhancement, yes, it is. However, it may feel anticlimactic because it’s something that seems to just makes sense.

Yes, I know what question you are asking, “Is that it?”. Frankly, as for the Dynamics 365 Business Central Personalization Enhancement, yes, it is. Yet, small changes can be impactful.

Microsoft does a good job listening to the end users’ concerns and works constantly to turn ideas into realities. A seamless and pleasant user experience is the one of the most, if not the most, important qualities of a good tool. Small yet incredibly practical changes like the one discussed in this blog are going to add up to a significantly different and better Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central in the future.
