What Dynamics NAV Users Need to Know about Dynamics 365

Microsoft’s newest Azure-enabled offering, Dynamics 365, is hitting the market and there is a lot of news and excitement around its release.  As a current Microsoft Dynamics NAV user, you probably have some questions about what Dynamics 365 is and how it affects you and your business.

Q: What is Dynamics 365?

A: Dynamics 365 is an Azure-hosted solution that combines ERP, CRM, and PowerApps functionality.

Q: Is Dynamics NAV part of Dynamics 365?

A: Although Dynamics 365 does include functionality that built on the Dynamics NAV platform, it will not be replacing the current Dynamics NAV solution.  Microsoft Dynamics NAV will continue to be developed and supported along the currently available product roadmap which extends through 2019.

Q: As a NAV user, how will Dynamics 365 affect my system?

A: Dynamics 365 will only be a factor for you if you fall into one of the following groups:

  1. If your organization is currently using Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, you will have the opportunity to seamlessly upgrade to Dynamics 365 for Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, and Project Service Automation at your renewal time.
  2. If your business is currently considering adding Microsoft Dynamics CRM, then you will need to re-evaluate the plans for Dynamics 365 for Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, and/or Project Service Automation. Additionally, it may benefit you to consider moving to Dynamics 365 for Financials (which is a new solution built on the NAV platform) or Dynamics 365 for Operations (formerly known as Dynamics AX) to take advantage of the seamless interoperability of the platform, the Azure deployment, and the packaged licensing costs.
