If you are planning an upgrade of your Microsoft Dynamics CRM solution, you need to know about the capabilities of The Solutions Framework, which is the means by which you move customization from one CRM organization to another. It is important to understand how the solutions framework has evolved from CRM 2011 to CRM 2015.
The Solution Framework was introduced in CRM 2011. In CRM 2013, enhancements were made to the solutions framework to make it faster, more flexible and portable. Microsoft also began restricting how the solutions framework would be applied. As part of the work Microsoft has done in the solutions framework, the ability with the CRM 2013 Service Pack 1 to export to a specific version of CRM has been added. So in this case, a CRM 2013 Service Pack 1 can export a solution that is compliant with CRM 2013 RTM.
Moving forward into CRM 2015, Microsoft will be continuing that theme. CRM 2015 solutions will integrate with CRM 2015 deployments but will not be importable into a CRM 2013 deployment. Also, CRM 2011 solutions coming directly into CRM 2015 will not be supported.
